BATTALION: 1944 recaptures the core of classic shooters. Return to the simple days of playing first-person shooters with your friends. Grab your bolt action rifle in 'rifles only' mode or compete in 5v5 Search and Destroy. “BULKHEAD have gotten the feel of Battalion absolutely spot on. Everything from the game’s movement to the gunplay brings you right back to the good old days of playing shooters online. The fast-paced action of Battalion is something I’ve missed for a long time.” - wccftech

More about us02
Battalion was our first foray into creating first person shooters that we as gamers wanted to play. The idea for the game arose when the small team behind The Turing Test played Call of Duty 2 capture the flag and S&D every lunch and after work. Noticing a huge gap in the market for a return to simplistic & pure competitive WW2 shooter to play against your friends – we asked ourselves “why is no one making this kind of game anymore?” and thus Battalion 1944 was born. Organically reaching #2 on Twitch, being downloaded by hundreds of thousands of players and seeing the community host & run major esports tournaments was the team's dream realised.
Whilst our love letter to the old school WW2 shooters of the past couldn’t sustain the player base required to be a mass market shooter we dreamed of long term – Battalion was a key milestone in BULKHEAD’s development history transitioning from a smaller indie team to a large mid-sized studio hungry for another chance at success. The team later released ‘Battalion: Legacy’ for free, removing the unsustainable competitive matchmaking in favour of old-school server browser and gamepad support for players to reunite for community 5v5 matches one last time. In 2022 we took the unprecedented step to voluntarily refund our entire Kickstarter community who came along on that early founding journey with us as we move forward toward making good on our shared desire of wanting to make the next big first person shooter.
